RichardC - Cold War 20mm - Task 4 (updated)

Very nice minis!
Got a question about that harrier. The way you based it, doesn't it get wobbly? I thought that connecting it with the base in the middle of the model makes it more stable.

Some excellent work Richard, where did you get the flight stands from?

Just to answer the questions above

Got a question about that harrier. The way you based it, doesn't it get wobbly? I thought that connecting it with the base in the middle of the model makes it more stable.

The last F-4 pic shows how the stand goes into the plane. The problem with modern planes is that they often had a heap of centre-line weapons so you can't really put the flight stand rod into the "centre" of the plane. I use a method shown but Rutger(?) a few years back and it seems to hold well.

Some excellent work Richard, where did you get the flight stands from?

I make them myself from perspex rod.

Thanks again for all your comments and Happy New Year everyone.

Richard silly question but what do you use to drill out the hole in the aircraft to receive the Perspex rod?

Sorry it took so long to reply. Easiest way to explain is with a picture:

Image

Got this idea from a Guilder - Rutger - a few years back. I drill a hole into the aircraft, typically with a small pin vice drill (as I don't own a larger one) and then stick in my standard hobby knife an spin the blade around making the whole larger and larger until it can fit the cut down masonry plug - or whatever it is - that I have previously cut down. I think the plug is 8mm on the inside and I got an 8mm perspex rod to fit. Sometimes in need to sand down the perspex a little to be sure of a snug fit.

Seems to work well - and I don't need magnets or anything like that.

Thanks

Richard
