What Panzer 4 variant & how to base heavy weapon teams.

What Panzer 4 variant & how to base heavy weapon teams.

Postby quozl » 04 Jan 2013

Hi everybody.

My local gaming store manager is investigating where he can source me a copy of BGK - I try to buy through him when possible as he's a friend and it also makes it easier to promote games I like in his store if he can supply them.

Of course I couldn't wait for the book to arrive before buying some models, so I got a plastic soldier company Panzer IV box.

Should I do them up as the Panzer IV Ausf H variant? That seems to be the right time period. Or does BGK Kursk include other variants?

I also bought the PSC Late War german heavy weapon box as I figured it would have to be useful.
Is it sensible to mount these as three man teams on a single base with either the MG42, 82 or 120mm mortars.

I'm going to put the panzerfausts singly based and half the panzerschreck singly and half doubly based (as half have loaders).

All sound sensible? It might be 2 weeks or more till I get my book and I'd love to get started painting models.

I'm also going to get the 120 or so miniature PSC german infantry box when my local store gets it back in.

There's no german buyers guide (like the Ruskie one above), or spread-sheet showing the options you can buy, right?

Thanks!

Panzer IV F1, G & H are all included in the rules and can be built with the PSC kit IIRC though not many F1 about at Kursk.

MG42 and 8cm mortar come with 3 crew so basing them together is Ok but some people like to base 2 with the weapon plus a single to aid casualty removal. Mine are all based with the weapon as they were originally used for stand based games. You can also add a 3 man loader team to increase rate of fire. Can't remember of the top of my head if the 12cm has a 3 or 4 man crew.

Your plan for Panzerfaust and Schreck is good but you will not need them for BGK as they weren't around then. you will be ready for the Normandy book though.

Yes follow the guidelines above and you won't go far wrong.

I built the core of both my German and Russian forces from the 20mm range of PSC, supplemented with Armourcast, Zvezda and Pegasus models. They cover most of the main variants required for the game and are nice and cheap. I just used metals for the more unusual stuff.
