Regarding halftrack costs

Regarding halftrack costs

Postby Powermonger » 24 Apr 2017

Warwick / Piers:

First, congrats on another splendid book!
Then i would like to ask you if you can discuss here some design concepts about pricing.
Can we get a chance of obtaining some hindsight about how halftracks are priced?

If a take a 251/1 for example it got priced at:

12 points ( for DAK)
10 points (for 12SS in new rulebook)
8 points (for most add-on purchases as towing vehicles)
6 points (as a group purchase at 24 pts for 4 of them in BGBlitz or Barb)

I'm not trying to discuss or put into the table the pointless "it's too cheap/too expensive" discusion. Also, i know the perfectly fine answer "different books / different theaters / different periods". I just want a little more if possible (if any).
Just want to know if you can share some of your wisdom and design concepts regarding Battlegroup in this particular concept.
As always, it is an extraordinary bonus to have you answering these type of questions directly. Many other games do not enjoy this extraordinary level of support.
Thanks a lot!!

Regards,

Diego

Think you answered it.. they cost dependant on the book

Its another mechanic to reflect availability along with Unique and Restricted.

I am glad you do that. Other rulesets assign points purely to stats with no "availability" modifier. End result is Sturmpanzer becoming mainstay of German tank forces or every single Finnish force packing an ISU-152 (of which a grand total of 1 served for a very short period of time. A second damaged one was used as a recovery vehicle).

It's the advantage of each book only having to tally up internally, rather than having to somehow 'balance' a sprawling cross-global-conflict reflecting a time of massive progression in technological and operational terms, and a clusterfuck of armies and equipment that never came within a thousand miles of each other (and, perhaps more cynically, sell models ;) )

The whole reason we went with books per 'campaign' or period of the war was exactly that reason... to make it more specific to the period. We feel it helps to theme everything better and set it's context correctly and try to limit ahistorical forces.

Really, to us, it's not one linear war but lots of varied theatres and forces, each with its own peculiarities and nuances, not too mention certain vehicles and equipment
