reluctant move from 20mm to 15mm

Postby zippyzed zoom » 12 Feb 2017

I have a huge 20mm collection of late war brits and fritz but really want to play Torbruk. Everyone else at my club who plays BG are 15mm'ers so to get a game of Torbruk will probably get 15mm DAK. Bit annoying coz I solo play and usually collect both sides (use my miniatures at club for Overlord) Tanks and vehicles no problem from PSC but troops of good quantity pcks hard to come by. Are PSC going to do any plastic DAK or does anyone know of a good range in metal? My searches so far have not revealed much variety. Will get PSC 15mm Fallschirmjager for Crete. How big is the Crete section in Torbruk?

Here's some figures, if you didn't notice them :

I like the products, price and store service. I painted some russian and german sometime ago. Here's some detailed pics of my russians, this way you'll see the sculpting level of this range (very good in my opinion) :

North Africa poorly served for 15mm infantry IMHO.

Currently the best DAK are Forged in battle for me but the alternatives not great. Usually a fan of Peter Pig but their DAK are old sculpts and nowhere near as good as the latest releases. Current range from BF too variable for my liking they have announced a new pack for v4 but as intended to represent the low manpower high firepower 1942 organisation not many figures included. They do look very good though and are metal. BF will be doing desert rats in plastic a motor platoon so once again not many figures.

I'm sure psc will do figures for the campaign Will has stated so on a number of occasions. Not sure when though as not included in the recently updated coming soon section.

Thanks for the pictures and advice, they do look good, and as a painter of 'gaming standard' e.g. ok from 3ft away, a good sculpt helps a great deal. They do some good platoon sets as well. Thanks again.

Battlefront are releasing a lot of new plastic kits for mid-war North Africa for their upcoming V.4 rules so that should help out a lot

Just stick to 20mm.

And those with 15mm will weep at their beauty.

yeah just been looking at battlefront range but....yes i love 20mm. Mmmm maybe 20mm Fallschirmjager and mountain troops(if the army lists bless me), Mediterranean dress commonwealth and a little bit of armour. Crete in mind.

If you're concerned about budget, I can tell you that 15mm (or even 10mm) is not really that cheaper than 20mm ! Especially if you don't mind using plastic figures.

I know! Had a few prezzies at xmas to help build a 15 mm celtic army and my contribution still required £80! Its £30 for a platoon for BG. Hence I've been trawling through old boxes. Presently doing Italleri late war germans and found a box of tropical fallschirmjager.

I would love to see a video on how you paint these. I can't get the wash/ink process to give me your final look. What is your process and paint choices?

I have some 15mm that i'm painting up as the 12th ss hitlerjugend. Just makes sense that in a 20mm world the kids should be smaller right?

Maybe, depending how far down the age range you're pushing 'kids', but the helmets and the guns wouldn't be scaled down with them, would it? :P
