Into the Desert...

Into the Desert...

Just had to share this pic... Tony Barton was kind enough to send us some pics from his AB Figures collection and Warwick had to have a play with one... Big thanks to Tony for generously sharing his work! :clapping:

Fingers crossed that one day we might see some more desert stuff from AB Figures to use with Battlegroup Tobruk.

Just to expand a little : an old friend of mine , John Wheeler , has been a very long-standing 1/76 armour modeller, and over the twenty years or so we've known each other, we've cooperated on quite a lot of vehicles. He builds them ( in this case the Dorchester and the Hippo are scratchbuilt ) and I then do the messy bits like filth and figures.
John was to a degree responsible for getting me to make WW2 figures anyway , since he kept popping round with his latest little masterpiece , and looking at me like a puppy, hoping for additions. So I started making more tank crew, and things just grew from there.

Recently, we've been reviewing the whole collection, and I decided that I would photograph as many as possible, to let the world in general get a look at them.

Here are a couple more:
A Challenger, completely home made...

And an A9 in 1940, also scratch...

A PzIII freezing in Russia...

They make perfect places to stick my figures !
There are a lot more in this vein, so if people like them, I will post some more. I'm taking pics and posting them on the Small Scale armour forum , Braille Scale, anyway , so it's not great bother to put them up on here as well. And if Piers' mate Warwick wants to breathe on the photos as well, fine.

All the more impressive as they are scratch built.
Against my better judgement think I'm going to have a cracking at painting caunter.

Amazing that those are scratch built - he should write a book.

The BG books always feature wonderful photos but the pic in the original post is even better, very realistic and great figures/models.

Great topic, such quality in scratch build models is rare. I also like the "one shot" philosophy of scratchbuild things

I have only been collecting the AB figures for a couple of years and found them very nice to paint and the poses look just right and I would like to see a few British and German infantry packs to complete the range for the Western desert.

The Starmer book on the Counter scheme is a must. It is a precisely defined scheme even if the official diagrams don't work entirely.
Good luck Counter is fun ;)

A few more from the Wheeler/Barton collection for your delectation...

A13s in BEF period camouflage of G3/G4; The MkIV is completely scratchbuilt, back in the days when if you wanted a tank, bar a few , you had to make it :~

An AEC MkII Armoured car, in the desert 1942:~

A DAK group with a light halftrack and the rare SiG33 on PzIII, a one off conversion:~

And to go with that , my PzIII with the crew sitting out to keep cool :~

Finally, another A13, back to the desert and the Caunter scheme:~
