Operation Sealion

Operation Sealion

Postby SABOT » 13 Oct 2017

Decided that I could not resist any longer and with the amount of 28mm new releases this year I have taken the plunge.

I am not going to go daft , just a reasonable amount of figures - honest . Not too many AFVS and some scratch built terrain / modified kits to give me -
A. British Coastal Fort
B. RAF Airfield
C. Hidden Base British Auxillaries
D. British town

I made the fort in an afternoon from bits of wood, foam and rubbish. Utilising two gun pisitions from Any Scale Models I beefed up the one gun to be a Naval 6 inch and a smaller turreted gun.

The idea is that this is an old stone fort built in the 19th century and has been recently 'improved'.

The garrison is yet to move in ( they are under coated) and they also need to roll out the barbed wire over the frontal arc of the fort .

So, to date this is as far as I have got ....

That's cool! Great modelling there..... :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
Greatness lies not in where we stand, but in what direction we are moving. We must sail sometimes with the wind, and sometimes against it, but sail we must, and not drift nor lie at anchor.

I struggled to find a 28mm scale RAF Control Tower at a reasonable price so decided to utilise the Airfix version and 'upscale' it . I the got carried away and scratched a hangar and a double E Pen , runway and windsock. Upon completion I was happy and then had to smile as Sarissa released their tower and hangar. Typical!

A quick job this so minimal measuring just going to use the Airfix kit as a template and upscale everything to 28mm.

Starting to get there now as it takes shape.

Pretty much finished the external aspects.

Another view.

Some internal detail for inside the observation deck. The main roof lifts off so figures fit inside every level which is important as in the scenario I have planned the German Paras will fight through this.

It was out of a 1/48th Warrior plastic kit but I found very similar at a garden centre yesterday.

Top work, that man. I particularly like the taped up windows in the control room; little touches like that that really lift a project above and beyond. Looking forward to seeing more, mate.

Few more bits for my 1940 RAF Airfield. Decided to scratch a hangar with working sliding door and illuminated with hidden LEDs.

The Nissan hut is Sarissa with my own roof of wriggly tin.

The crashed Hurricane was rescued from the bin - don't ask!

The runway sits on top of my fur grassed area and is towelling. Just the shorter grassed area of the grass runway.

Windsock is the little finger cut off a rubber glove with three metal hoops inserted at intervals cut from a paper clip.

The Operations Caravan was scratched from plasicard with a spare figure set within the dome - that was the top of one of me Mrs make up products. Sssssh lads she hasn't sussed yet!

The E Pen is scratched from card and towelling over scrap wood. The crew shelters in the kiddie is hollow so figures fit within. It splits so I can deploy these as single units. The concrete I was quite p,eased with as the cracked look developed by accident using a hairdryer on card with a mix of filler/pva/ink and blown dry, cracking as I went on.
