1/300 MBB 105 PAH 1.....disc or not?

1/300 MBB 105 PAH 1.....disc or not?

Postby Andy » 15 Sep 2013

Afternoon folks,

Quick consensus required, just about finished these MBB 105 PAH 1 for the West Germans and looking at attaching the rotor discs.

Only problem is that they are so small with my usual disc on very little can be seen of the model, and with the PE rotors it does not look right....any thoughts?

The discs are cut from clear plastic and overlaid with a rotor 'wash' decal I print out, this makes them a little frosted in appearance.
I've tried with clear discs in the past, however the rotor wash to is too harsh.
I'm trying to come up with a way of softening the wash and maintain the clarity, although when you look through a rotor wash it is a little opaque.

Clear hand drawn rotor wash.

Lovely models.......... Personally I'd go with a disc for sure, with slight frosting, but not opaque.

Cheers for the comments folk's,
I've gone for (at the moment  ) clear discs, that way you can see some of the model.
More trial and error work on rotor discs methinks................

Absolutely blinding work! The fact it's so dinky just makes it even cooler! :yahoo:

Have you tried using the translucent Tamiya "smoke" paint to paint on the spinning rotor blade on a clear disc, rather than plain black? It gives a slightly more subtle effect; or else you could try overspraying the entire disc with a very thin coat of it, to give a sort of middle ground between a clear disc and an opaque disc. Just a suggestion if you're looking to fart about with it a bit...

Cheers
Iain.

I'd say go with a clearer disc, it obscures the miniature far less but keeps a good 'in motion' look.
